A 68-year-old male who has worked in the building industry presents with a history of chest pain and dyspnoea. On examination he has evidence of a right-sided pleural effusion, which is confirmed by chest x-ray. Pleural aspiration is performed and a pleural biopsy taken. Histology from the biopsy shows mesothelioma.

In this patient:

a)      Chemotherapy should be given to prevent seeding of tumour cells along the biopsy track

b)      Surgery should be performed to prevent seeding of tumour cells along the needle track

c)      Radiotherapy should be given to prevent seeding of tumour cells along the needle track

d)      Curative chemotherapy should be given
